On December 16, 2024, the federal bank regulatory agencies, as members of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) announced the availability of the 2023 Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) peer data. This dataset includes small business, small farm, and community development lending data reported by commercial banks and savings associations subject to the CRA regulation. RiskExec has now been updated with this dataset and 2023 CRA reporting is now available within the Peer Analysis module and CRA module small business and small farm reports.
With the recent discussions about the Small Business Lending Rule (also known as 1071) and the more recent CRA Final rule, it is imperative that banks are able to compare their own data to their peers especially in low- and moderate-income geographies and to small businesses and farms. By making the peer data available promptly, RiskExec enables its users to get an early read on their performance before 2024 data collection concludes.
The 2023 CRA peer data set includes data from 721 institutions comprising approximately 8.4 million small business loans and over 196 thousand small farm loans. Loan volume declined slightly in comparison to 2022. The distribution of loan types remained consistent in comparison to the prior years with small business loans representing 98% of reported lending and small farm loans representing the remaining 2%. In 2023, the reporting institutions had approximately 27,000 community development records totaling $127 billion.
As always, we at RiskExec work hard to get public data into the hands of our clients as soon as it is released by the government and we have verified its integrity and completeness. Please let our team know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Sarah Brons
Senior Vice President, CRA Products and Services
